Introducing...My First Bantu Knot Out!

The Bantu Knots are something I have to get used to. It's not my favorite style, but something I can definitely work with. Practice makes perfect!

PRODUCTS USED / STYLING METHOD

Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner
Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue

1. After washing, conditioning and detangling my hair, I separated my hair in seven sections (using butterfly clips to hold each section).

2. Starting from the back, I would part each sections into four individual sections, (preparing to knot).

3. Add the Curly Meringue to the section.

4. Starting from the roots, start to twirl your hair.

5. Once you start twirling, the hair closest your roots should start to bend (knot). Once it does, use your index finger to hold it down.

6. Start wrapping your hair around that knot.

7. When you get to the ends, you can either tuck it under the knot or use a bobby pin to secure the knot.

8. Continue knotting the rest of your hair.

9. When finished, cover hair with a satin bonnet or scarf.

THE OUTCOME
Not too bad....a little frizzy, but not too bad!

The Simple Cure to a Bad Hair Day

Today my hubby waits until the last minute to tell me that we needed to go run some errands.

Now Saturdays are normally my "Wash, Detangle, and Set" Day. So my hair was not prepared to be making any public appearances.

So I went to my trusty accessories drawer! Pulled out my beenie, hoops, and shades. Added some gloss to my lips....and I was ready to go!

Revitalizing a Days Old Twist Out: Part II - Curly Meringue Edition

So as you all know, I'm on a Miss Jessie "high" right now!

Last Saturday, I did a two strand twist with the Curly Meringue. I then unraveled the twist on Monday to wear a twist out.

The Curly Meringue was fantastic on my hair. With the help of the Baby Buttercreme for moisture, my curl pattern lasted all week!

The pics below are different ways I wore my hair throughout the week.

S/N: I jazzed up my hair a bit by flat two strand twisting the other side of my hair, (to match the left that was already twisted from the start). I didn't have to re-wet it at all. My hair was uber soft, so I used my fingers to part my hair.

Overnight Care
Everynight I would re-twist my hair in chunkier twist with the Baby Buttercreme. And then sleep with a satin bonnet.

It's Okay To Share!

I got a secret to share! Well...its not my secret, but my hubby's, (I know...bad wife). My hubby LOVES Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie!

He said that it gives him more moisture and shine than any other male hair care products that he has used in the past!

This is hilarious to me because since the beginning of my journey, he has always referred to my products as my "fruits and berries."

Look who's using "fruits and berries" now...LOL!

Guess it's time to start hiding my good stuff...LOL!

Natural Hair Care....There's an APP for that!

I would first like to start off by saying, "GO BUCKEYES!"

Okay...now that's out of my system....

I decided to search through the Android Market to see if there were any apps for natural hair. Believe it or not, I came across a nice amount. One that caught my eye was called "Curls On The Go" by NaturallyCurly.com ( if you're not hip to the website...get hip)!

I love it! I would recommend this to anyone with an Android or an iPhone! Here are a few reasons why I feel it's the app to have!

1. It tells you what type of hair day to expect based off your hair type and the weather forecast in your area!

2. Recommends products based off your hair type.

3. No need to search for hours on YouTube looking for hair tutorial done by people with your hair type. This app will pull up pics and videos of people with similar hair type.

4. There's a Salon Locator (I didn't see any I was familiar with...but its still great to have that option)!

5. And it provides tips and tricks!

So what are you waiting for???? Download the app! Oh...and did I mention its FREE!!!!

Kinky Confessions: Thanksgiving Day Hair!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and took home plenty of leftovers! I sure did...LOL!

So today I rocked a two strand twist out. I received a lot of compliments but I also received a lot of question about if my hair was a wig...LOL! Some would be offended, but not me! It just confirmed to me that I have some thick, beautiful, healthy hair! I must be doing something right in this hair journey!

So how did you rock your kinky curls for the holidays?

Kinky Confessions: Miss Jessie...I LOVE YOU!!!!

Yeah...I said it! I LOVE MISS JESSIE!!!!

So if you read my blog from yesterday, I took advantage of the great BOGO special that Target had going on yesterday for Miss Jessie's products. I bought an 8oz of the Baby Buttercreme and an 8oz of the Curly Meringue.

Last night I did a dry twist out with the Baby Buttercreme. And I must say...it smelled delicious!!!!! (LOL) But besides the great smell, I loved how a little goes a long well with this product. For each twist, I would just dab my index finger into the creme and that would be just enough!

Here is a pic of the finish product!

Kinky Confessions: Twist-Out with a Side Braid

Wanna know how I got this look?

*Hair State: Hair was co-washed (washed with conditioner only) the morning of the twist out. I wore my hair in a puff to help stretch-out my hair. Once I got home from work, my hair is completely dry. This is when I start on my twist.

Tools: Wide Tooth Comb, Spray Bottle filled with water, and Satin Bonnet

Products Used:
Softee's Aloe Vera Activator Gel
*My first time EVER using this, and I have to say that I LOVE IT!*

Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie (SMCES)
*One of my FAV'S and a MUST HAVE*

Steps:
1.) Part your hair by using your fingers. *Remember to be gentle since your hair is dry*

2.) With the spray bottle of water, slightly damp that section of your hair.

3.) Starting at the ends and working your way up, comb your hair with a wide tooth comb.

4.) Use a dime size of the SMCES and distribute throughout that section.

5.) Depending on how small or large you want your twist out to be, part the section that you are about to twist.

6.) Before you start twisting, add a very small amount of the Aloe Vera Gel (a small amount goes a long way) to that section.

7.) Start twisting!
When twisting, remember to start at the root. When you get to the end, twirl your hair around your fingers. This helps secure the ends and prevent them from frizzing.*

8.) Repeat until hair is completely finish!

9.) Cover with satin bonnet.

Optional: Steps for Side Braid
1.) Part hair to your desire in the front
2.) Slightly damp hair
3.) Add SMCES
4.) Add Aloe Vera Gel
5.) French Braid or Flat Twist hair (my hair is flat twist to the side)

Kinky Confessions:Shoulda Stayed Kinky..LOL!

So I went and got my hair pressed for my "Second Annual 30th Bday Celebrations"...LOL!

Kinky Confessions: The Start of Something Kinky

July 2010
My Last Relaxer

For the majority of my life, I wore my hair like the pic above. I loved short hair! Heck...I still love short hair. The many styles and compliments were to die for...LOL! But those weren't the only reasons why I kept my hair short.

My hair growing out from a chic short cut would be full and thick. But once it reached to a certain lenght, (like the pic above), my hair would start to go flat, one side was fuller than the other, and my hair started to break off around the nap of my neck. My bangs would also stop growing. This was very frustrating. So my fix to the problem was to cut it back short again.

Kinky Thoughts

In early September 2010, I was surfing the web and kept coming across a whole lot of sites aimed for those who were natural or transitioning to become fully natural. What attracted me to this world was hearing the positive feedback. People were talking about how they never seen their hair healthier and being able to retain lenght. But what really caught my attention was hearing people talk about how liberating it felt; how it seemed like they were meeting themselves for the first time. I was just recently lay-off and just became a mom for the 2nd time in 5yrs. I needed a change...inside and out!

Who is Pretty Kinky Diva?

First off...Mind out of the gutter people...LOL! The only thing "kinky" about me is my HAIR!

For as long as I could remember, I wanted "good" hair! I wanted hair like my mom, aunts, cousins, grandparents and even my uncles. To me, "good hair" is what my mother side of the family had; beautiful, long, wavy and curly. Me...not so much!

My hair was super thick, dry, hard to comb, kinky, nappy, too much work, etc. Now, I don't remember what my natural hair looked like when I was younger. I'm just recapping how my mom would describe my hair when I would ask...LOL!

I would always joke to people about me and my mom's relationship when it came to my hair history. I would say things like, "My Mom didn't love me!" and "I must have really pissed my mom off!"

Why would I say things like that, you ask. Well...let me break down my "Hair History"!

Birth-1st Grade:
Natural Hair / Pressed n Curl

2nd Grade - 3rd Grade:
Jheri Curl (she let some amateur do it...broke off ALL my hair!!!)

4th Grade - 5th Grade:
Relaxed (and this was before relaxer's advertised as being "No Lye Relaxers...OUCH!)

End of 5th Grade - 6th Grade: Jheri Curl (my most embarrassing years!)

7th Grade until 2010: Relaxed, Braids, Relaxed

So after years of stress on my hair, I decided to go back to being me! The me that I never had the chance of getting to know.

Welcome to Pretty Kinky Diva's - Kinky Confessions! I'm here to spill it all...The Good, The Bad, and The Kinky world of Natural Hair!
